Call of the Mountains

Pen y Fan 5

The weather is fine,
Even for this time of year.
May I go walking?

Too much to be done.
So stop procrastinating,
And on with my work.

This was Pen y Fan and Corn Du on 3rd November, 2012. So far, this year, there has been no sign of any snow, but the mountains still look beautiful.

I have been a little quiet, this week. It’s a case of prioritising. We all have much to do and we need to make sure that we do the most important things, first. Still, when I looked at the weather, last Monday, I couldn’t help thinking that, although I had work to do, the mountains were calling. Never mind. Deadlines come and go. The mountains will be there for some time.

Job Hunting

Looking for a job.
People say I’m getting old.
What are my chances?

It’s a sad situation that too many people, today, are left with no real opportunities simply because of their age. Yet older employees don’t just bring skills; they can also bring stability. Older employees often have life experience that helps them to calm stressful situations. So why are so many employers reluctant to take them on?

Isn’t it time to redress the balance?

As the Seasons Change

She looks just the same.
Or do I imagine it?
Are we getting old?

Many years have passed.
Still surprising each other,
Ev’ry now and then.

Love that once was new,
Strengthened through each day and year,
Knows each other’s thoughts.

Eyesight may grow dim,
Hearing faded more each day.
Still a sense of awe.

Radiant is her smile,
Though the years have taken toll
On her aching limbs.

What, then, have I done
To deserve such blessed joy?
Worthy of her care?

Flame of love grows strong.
Waters cannot put it out.
She and I still here.

Though they said we’d fail;
Though we struggled now and then;
Still our thoughts are one.

As the years go by,
Love will guide our troubled lives,
As the seasons change.
